If the problem is with the site, for example how your request was relayed, how your information was handled or a mistake on a page, use the contact form. Tell us your name, your city, about when you sent the request and what happened. We read every message and look into it.

The site signs nothing with you or any contractor, so it cannot decide disputes or order refunds. Bring a complaint about a contractor's work, pricing, paperwork or conduct to that business first, in writing, so a record exists.

When that does not work, public bodies may help. The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) handles license questions and complaints about residential contractors at 651-284-5069 or 1-800-657-3944. If you contracted directly with a licensed residential contractor and hold a final court judgment for certain losses, DLI's Contractor Recovery Fund (651-284-5057) can say whether part may be repaid; DLI asks that you apply within two years, and the Fund excludes unlicensed businesses. For permit concerns, go to the office that issued it: Minneapolis Development Review at 612-673-3000, or your suburb's building inspections office. The Minnesota Attorney General's Office also hears from consumers.

Under Minnesota's Consumer Fraud Act and Deceptive Trade Practices Act, a business may not mislead people or claim an approval or connection it lacks.
